Boylston After-School Band · 2026–27
Parents are exploring an after-school band program for 4th and 5th graders for the 2026–27 school year — and whether it happens depends on hearing from families like yours.
Take the Survey →A group of parent volunteers is exploring a parent-organized, independently funded after-school band for 4th and 5th graders — one that complements the school's music program without drawing on the district budget. We're calling ourselves the Research Committee for the Boylston After-School Band, because right now that's exactly what this is — research. Before anyone commits to anything, we need to know whether enough families are interested.
We plan to hire a qualified, CORI background-checked instructor with experience teaching beginning band — this would be real music instruction, not parents winging it.
Students would start on flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, or percussion. No experience needed.
Likely two afternoons per week: one for small-group instrument lessons, one for full band rehearsal.
If interest is strong, we'd aim to start in mid-September and build toward a fun, low-stakes winter concert.
We're working to secure space at or near the school; day, time, and venue will be set based on survey responses.
We're building this to break even — tuition covers the instructor, insurance, and sheet music, and nothing more. No one is making a profit.
Tuition per semester, with the final number depending on enrollment. More students means a lower cost for everyone.
Instrument rental, paid directly to a local music store (rent-to-own options are typical).
Scholarships and sibling discounts: cost should never be the reason a child can't play. A confidential scholarship option will be available.
A beginner band needs enough players to cover woodwinds, brass, and percussion — realistically at least 12–15 committed students. The survey tells us whether that's possible, which afternoons work for the most families, and whether the estimated costs are workable.
Taking the survey commits you to nothing. It's a no-obligation way to help us find out if this can happen. If there's enough interest, we'll follow up with concrete details — day, time, place, instructor, and exact cost — before asking anyone to register.
Take the Survey →We're volunteer parents of Boylston Elementary students. This is an independent, parent-organized effort — not a school district program — though we're keeping the school informed and hope to partner with the district on logistics like facilities and communication.
Questions? Email us at hello@boylstonband.org.
No. It's organized and funded independently by parents, so it doesn't affect the school budget. We're coordinating with the district where we can.
Not at all. The program is designed for beginners.
If enough families are interested, we'd aim for a fall 2026 pilot starting in mid-September. If we're not quite there, a January start is the backup plan.
Tell us in the survey — there's a confidential option for that. Scholarships and payment plans are part of the plan from day one.
No. Registration (with full details and a deposit) would only open once the program is confirmed.
We'll use them to decide whether to proceed and to set the day, time, and cost. We'll share what we learn with everyone who responds.
